Documentary and Video Production

MY MOTHER, THE IMMIGRANT

This is one of my favorite videos, which I made during my time at Community College of Philadelphia. Inspired by my personal experience of moving to the United States with my mom in 2014, I decided to interview other immigrant students with different backgrounds and surprisingly, their stories had a lot in common. Through the film, I am able to tell stories of how immigrant kids see their mothers and the struggles that their mothers face. I believe that even for people who are not immigrants, the story can be relatable.

FAJR DOCUMENTARY

This is a documentary about Fajr, a 19 years old artist and rapper from North Philadelphia. Through his personal story, the documentary touches on the topic of the juvenile justice system and the loss of childhood. After what he had to go through, his strength and motivation is truly inspiring. This is my first documentary that runs over 20 minutes and I feel very honored to be able to share Fajr’s story.

This video is no longer public.

NON-BINARY ASIAN AMERICAN

This is an interview that I did with Riley, who identifies as non-binary. Riley shared their story about what was it like growing up as an Asian American who struggles with mental health. It is a story about the disconnect between generations and the importance of LGBTQIA+ visibility in the Asian-American community, and vice versa. This is a short film I did during my senior year at Merion Mercy Academy.
