Acting Presidential

A warm and tactile UI for a historical game

The game

In this game, the player is placed in the role of a presidential advisor. In order to gain a holistic understanding of the situation, the player interviews people with different perspectives, and learns how to ask meaningful questions.

Acting Presidential is a part of an iCivics suite — a collection of educational games that aim to inspire young people to participate in democracy and civic engagement. iCivics games are part of many US public school curriculums.

My process

  • Led UX/UI design process
  • Studied the statement of work to understand project scope and budgets
  • Researched the history of the game content for a background understanding of the story and its environment
  • Transformed game designer’s storyboard into UX bubble map for screen flow and asset prioritization
  • Formed UI moodboard based on past iCivics games
  • Created wireframes and mockups in Figma
  • Designed UI assets in photoshop
  • Implemented 2D and UI assets into Unity game objects
  • Set up animator controllers and animated UI
  • Collaborated with engineers using SourceTree and Github
